Tropical Storm Jangmi Strikes Japan, Power Outages Reported

Post by : Shakul

A severe tropical storm named Jangmi has hit various regions of Japan, unleashing heavy rain and powerful winds that have led to significant disruption in everyday life and transportation.

The storm was situated about 150 kilometers south of Tokyo and is moving northeast, accompanied by strong winds. Meteorological agencies are cautioning that the storm is passing closely to Japan’s Pacific coastline and are urging residents in the affected areas to exercise extreme caution.

Approximately 60,000 households are experiencing power outages due to damage sustained by the storm to electrical networks. Reports of flooding, landslides, and downed trees have also surfaced across various prefectures.

At least 15 individuals have been injured due to incidents linked to the storm, with most injuries reported as minor. Emergency services are actively deployed to address the damages and assist those in at-risk communities.

Evacuation orders have been issued for hundreds of thousands in central, eastern, and southwestern parts of Japan. Officials are advising residents to seek safer premises and avoid unnecessary travel.

Transportation has been heavily affected, with around 900 flights canceled, impacting tens of thousands of travelers. Rail services, including bullet trains, are also experiencing delays and partial suspensions for safety reasons.

Several major car manufacturers have temporarily shut down operations at various facilities as a precaution but have announced plans for partial resumption depending on weather conditions later on.

Authorities are keeping a close watch on the storm as it progresses, warning that strong winds and heavy rain may continue to pose a risk in multiple areas of Japan until the conditions improve.
