Jhonatan Narváez Takes Over Giro d’Italia Points Lead for UAE Team Emirates

Post by : Raina Al-Fahim

In a thrilling display, Jhonatan Narváez has overtaken the lead in the points standings during stage 17 of the Giro d’Italia for UAE Team Emirates-XRG.

The Ecuadorian national champion has snatched back the iconic maglia ciclamino, or purple points jersey, by securing top points at an intermediate sprint on Wednesday.

Narváez has now surpassed Paul Magnier from Soudal Quick-Step in the rankings. His noteworthy contributions throughout the race, highlighted by three stage wins, significantly bolster his chances for the points jersey.

During stage 17, Narváez was part of the day's breakaway group alongside teammates Jan Christen and Igor Arrieta. The team worked collaboratively to set Narváez up perfectly before the sprint.

Arrieta played a crucial role by shutting down an important attack, allowing Narváez to sprint ahead and seize the top points. With this achievement, Narváez is set to don the maglia ciclamino for stage 18.

UAE Team Emirates-XRG also sought another stage victory. Arrieta performed admirably in the breakaway and came in just seconds behind Michael Valgren from EF Education-EasyPost, the stage winner.

This result marks another victorious moment for UAE Team Emirates-XRG as they continue their impressive journey in the Giro d’Italia.
