Kangana Ranaut Hails BJP's Landmark Victory in Mumbai BMC Elections, Shiv Sena Ousted

Post by : Meena Hassan

BJP Member of Parliament and actress Kangana Ranaut has expressed her heartfelt congratulations to the BJP, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, for their momentous triumph in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections.

This victory holds a deep personal resonance for Kangana, whose office near her Mumbai residence faced demolition by the BMC during Shiv Sena's rule in 2020. With Shiv Sena now ousted from power, she feels this outcome marks a form of retribution.

“I am thrilled with BJP’s sweeping success in the Maharashtra BMC elections. Heartfelt congratulations to Prime Minister Modi ji, Chief Minister Fadnavis ji, and the whole BJP team in Maharashtra for this fantastic victory,” stated Kangana.

Reflecting on her experiences, she remarked, “Those who have wronged me, destroyed my office, and pressured me to leave Maharashtra have now been turned down by the people.”

Kangana commended the electorate for sending a decisive message to what she termed “women-haters, bullies, and the nepotism mafia.”

As per the latest updates, the BJP is reported to be leading in 90 of the 210 seats declared in Mumbai, while Eknath Shinde's Shiv Sena faction claims 28. The NCP, contesting separately under Ajit Pawar, leads in just three wards.

Among the opposition, the Shiv Sena (UBT) is ahead in 57 wards, followed by Maharashtra Navnirman Sena with nine, and Congress with 15, along with others capturing eight wards.

This decisive outcome marks the end of the Shiv Sena (UBT)’s long-standing influence over the BMC. The BJP contested 137 seats, while Shiv Sena fielded candidates in 90, with the NCP factions running separately, highlighting a fragmented electoral battle.

In parallel, results from the Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad municipal elections suggest a waning influence of the Pawar-led factions, as voters failed to back them despite their tactical alignments.

This election signifies a major political transition in Mumbai, firmly placing the BJP in control of the city’s wealthiest municipal body after years of opposition dominance.
