Madison Keys Eliminated from Australian Open by Jessica Pegula

Post by : Meena Hassan

Defending champion Madison Keys faced elimination from the Australian Open on Monday as she was defeated by fellow American Jessica Pegula in a straight-sets match at Melbourne Park. The encounter, taking place at Rod Laver Arena, highlighted Keys' struggle, with a final score of 6-3, 6-4 in the fourth round.

Right from the start, it was clear that Keys was having difficulty against Pegula’s aggressive style. Pegula, recognized for her powerful groundstrokes and tactical brilliance, quickly took control, forcing Keys into a series of unforced errors that disrupted her rhythm.

Despite showing moments of her championship form in the second set, Keys could not turn the tide against Pegula's relentless consistency and accurate shot-making. Pegula efficiently dictated the match’s pace, seizing pivotal moments to secure the match.

This defeat comes as a shock for Keys, who entered the tournament as the reigning champion and a strong contender for the title. Her exit allows for other players to step up in the draw for the coveted Grand Slam title.

With this impressive victory, Jessica Pegula has now raised the bar for her future performance in the tournament, while Madison Keys must take time to reassess her game after an earlier-than-expected exit from Melbourne Park.
