Tragedy struck Kuwait International Airport on Wednesday as an Indian national was killed and a total of 63 others were injured in a coordinated missile and drone assault. This information was confirmed by both Kuwaiti officials and the Indian Embassy located in Kuwait.
The Indian Embassy publicly acknowledged the loss of life, extending heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased. They also stated their commitment to working with Kuwaiti authorities to ensure support for victims and their families during this difficult time.
According to reports from Kuwait's Ministry of Health, the injured individuals were rushed to various hospitals for urgent medical care. Health Ministry representative Abdullah Al-Sanad highlighted that many injuries were severe, including head trauma, cerebral hemorrhages, amputations, and blast-related injuries. A significant response was mobilized, with 25 ambulances dispatched to manage the aftermath.
The assault specifically targeted Terminal One of the airport, leading to both human casualties and infrastructural damage. As a precautionary measure, air traffic operations were suspended on the same day. Abdullah Al-Rajhi from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation confirmed this temporary halt in flights.
The attack was claimed by Iran's Revolutionary Guards, who framed it as retaliation for recent US military actions affecting Iranian interests. In a communication shared via their official Telegram channel, they announced the missile and drone launches aimed at military installations in both Kuwait and Bahrain, including the Ali Al Salem Air Base and the US Fifth Fleet's headquarters in Bahrain.
The incident has sparked widespread condemnation across the Gulf region. Anwar Gargash, a UAE presidential adviser, stressed the need for a unified response among Gulf nations, asserting that this act of aggression poses a broader regional threat.
Kuwait's Foreign Ministry also condemned the attack, emphasizing that it targeted essential civilian infrastructure and resulted in both fatalities and injuries.
The Indian Ministry of External Affairs joined in denouncing the strike, expressing sympathy for the family of the Indian victim.
Authorities remain vigilant as they continue to evaluate the impacts of the attack and monitor the evolving security landscape.
