Kuwait’s General Directorate of Drug Control has stopped an attempt to smuggle approximately two kilograms of methamphetamine into the country and arrested an Asian resident suspected of involvement in the planned trafficking operation.
The seizure was announced by Kuwait’s Ministry of Interior on August 16, following investigations and surveillance by drug control authorities.
Drugs Concealed Inside Books
According to the Ministry of Interior, the shipment arrived in Kuwait by air freight from an Asian country. The methamphetamine had been concealed inside books in an apparent attempt to disguise the drugs and avoid detection during inspection.
Drug control officers identified the concealed narcotics and continued their investigation before arresting the suspect after establishing his alleged involvement in bringing the shipment into Kuwait for distribution.
Suspect Referred for Legal Action
The arrested suspect was referred to the competent authorities along with the seized narcotics for further legal proceedings.
Kuwaiti authorities also coordinated with officials in the country from which the shipment originated to ensure that the necessary measures were taken there.
Kuwait Steps Up Action Against Drug Trafficking
The Ministry of Interior reaffirmed its commitment to combating drug smuggling and trafficking in Kuwait.
The ministry said security authorities remain focused on detecting changing methods used by traffickers and will take firm action against individuals attempting to bring narcotics into Kuwait or distribute them within the country.
