Kuwait City: Kuwait's Criminal Security Affairs Sector has arrested an Egyptian expatriate and a Kuwaiti woman over allegations of selling and using counterfeit government stamps and misappropriating fees owed to the state.
The arrests were carried out by the Criminal Police Department after investigators uncovered the alleged use of fake government stamps at a government hospital where both suspects were working.
According to Kuwait's Ministry of Interior, investigators first arrested the Egyptian expatriate, who was employed as a security guard at the hospital. Authorities found several counterfeit government stamps in his possession during the operation.
During questioning, the Egyptian suspect reportedly provided information that helped investigators identify and locate the second suspect, a Kuwaiti woman employed at the same hospital.
The Kuwaiti woman was subsequently arrested, and authorities found additional counterfeit government stamps in her possession.
Investigators also documented the woman allegedly completing a transaction using a duplicate or counterfeit government stamp in exchange for money, the Ministry of Interior said.
During interrogation, she reportedly admitted to using her position at the hospital to make financial gains. According to the ministry, she allegedly processed official transactions with counterfeit stamps while keeping genuine stamps for use in other transactions.
The woman also reportedly admitted to removing previously used genuine stamps from stored documents and reusing them for new transactions.
Authorities seized the counterfeit stamps and other items believed to be connected to the alleged offenses.
The two suspects, along with the seized materials, were referred to the competent authorities for further legal proceedings.
The Ministry of Interior said security authorities will continue monitoring and investigating attempts to exploit government procedures for financial gain, with a focus on protecting public funds and official documents from fraud and misuse.
