Sharjah, UAE: On Sunday, the 18th session of the Sharjah Children’s Shura Council and the 9th session of the Sharjah Youth Shura Council were officially inaugurated by His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, at the Sharjah Consultative Council headquarters. The event was themed "Serving the Community is Leadership."
Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed highlighted that these councils operate based on the vision of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, with ongoing support from Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi. He expressed admiration for Sharjah's youth and their engagement in these councils.
He pointed out that the chosen slogan signifies the essential role of responsibility and active engagement, reinforcing Sharjah's trust in its youth to tackle significant issues and provide insightful suggestions for societal and national progression.
The Deputy Ruler underlined that being a member of these councils entails genuine responsibility and serves as a valuable learning experience. He noted that the councils aid young individuals in cultivating skills such as dialogue, teamwork, respecting diverse opinions, and leadership.
With around 20,000 voters participating in the election of council members, he acknowledged the strong community backing for youth involvement in the decision-making process.
Sheikh Sultan motivated the members to share their opinions thoughtfully, engage earnestly in discussions, and propose actionable recommendations for Sharjah's future. He extended his congratulations and wished them success in their endeavors.
The ceremony began with the UAE national anthem and a Quran recitation, leading to the oath-taking for 60 members of the Children’s Shura Council and 80 members of the Youth Shura Council.
Hamid Saeed Al Zaabi, Chairman of the Children’s Shura Council, expressed gratitude to the leadership for empowering children, emphasizing their vital role in shaping a better future and promising commitment and loyalty to the nation.
Hamad Mohammed Ibrahim, Chairman of the Youth Shura Council, noted that the youth play an essential role in development, pledging to transform ideas into tangible initiatives that benefit the community. He expressed gratitude to Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed and Sheikha Jawaher for their unwavering support for youth leadership.
The objective of these councils is to bolster parliamentary skills among youth, encourage dialogue, and enhance community participation. This initiative underlines Sharjah's commitment to investing in human resources and preparing the leaders of tomorrow.
The event welcomed several senior officials, including Sheikh Majid bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Sheikh Dr. Khalid bin Humaid Al Qasimi, Sheikh Saud bin Sultan Al Qasimi, and Sheikha Jawaher bint Abdullah Al Qasimi, along with other government representatives.
