Temporary Adjustments to LRT Routes Announced

Temporary Adjustments to LRT Routes Announced

Post by : Shakul

Services for the Light Rail Transit on Malaysia’s Ampang and Sri Petaling lines are operating under a revised schedule as of Friday, due to continuing repair work after a train derailment near Chan Sow Lin Station. While there are disruptions, the stations are open, and train services are being adjusted to prioritize commuter convenience.

A recent survey of stations along the impacted route indicates a smooth operation, with ticket counters open and staff available to assist passengers. Rapid Rail staff have been actively positioned at platforms to guide travelers through the temporary service modifications.

At key stations like Cheras, only one platform is in use for trains moving in both directions. Passengers bound for Putra Heights and Sentul Timur must adhere to new boarding announcements made via loudspeakers. This setup permits trains to keep running while repair crews address the damaged track section.

Many commuters expressed appreciation for the support provided by rail staff during this period. Travelers noted that clear communication and the visible presence of staff minimized confusion amid the altered boarding processes. Most were able to continue their journeys with only slight delays.

However, a portion of passengers opted for alternative transport options due to route modifications. Some switched to e-hailing services after arriving at connecting stations, citing greater convenience and concerns about longer travel times. Nonetheless, many recognized the efforts by transit operators to keep services running.

The disruption stemmed from a train derailment involving the Ampang/Sri Petaling Line near Chan Sow Lin Station on Thursday morning. Authorities confirmed that a fault in the track switching mechanism was responsible, impacting train operations and necessitating quick repair efforts.

Transport Minister Anthony Loke reported that efforts to restore service are on track, with expectations that the affected route will be fully operational by next Wednesday at the latest. He reassured passengers that all stations would stay open during repairs and that modified train schedules are in place to ensure service continuity while safety and infrastructure upgrades are finalized.
