A 22-year-old Malaysian individual faces murder charges in Singapore after a 21-year-old woman's body was found at a Housing and Development Board block in Choa Chu Kang earlier this week.
The accused, Mohamad Faiz Umar, is alleged to have killed Chua Bee Ting inside a lift at Block 248 Choa Chu Kang Avenue 2 on the evening of May 26. Authorities believe the crime occurred between 8:53 p.m. and 9:22 p.m.
The Singapore police responded to a request for assistance around 9 p.m. and discovered the victim unresponsive at the 12th-floor lift lobby of the residential area. Emergency personnel later pronounced her dead at the scene.
Initial investigations indicate that the victim had sustained stab wounds, and the police confirmed that she and the accused were acquainted, though details of their relationship remain undisclosed.
A resident reported hearing a loud noise and later observed a man lying near a dustbin area on the ground floor when she looked from her window. Investigators are diligently exploring the circumstances of this tragic event.
Following the incident, Mohamad Faiz Umar was apprehended under suspicion of murder and subsequently hospitalized at the National University Hospital for treatment. The court has postponed the case to June 18 while investigations continue.
In Singapore, those found guilty of murder may face the death penalty. This case has garnered considerable public attention due to its violent nature occurring within a public housing complex.
Authorities have yet to disclose more information regarding potential motives or evidence gathered during the investigation. Police confirmed that inquiries are ongoing as forensic teams and investigators continue their work on the case.
