Mamata Banerjee Calls for Supreme Court Inquiry into Ajit Pawar's Plane Crash

Post by : Bianca Haleem

West Bengal's Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee, has called for a Supreme Court-led inquiry into the tragic plane crash that claimed the life of Maharashtra's Deputy Chief Minister and NCP leader, Ajit Pawar, in Baramati. She has raised concerns over the circumstances surrounding the incident, suggesting a potential political angle.

At a public engagement, Banerjee expressed her shock over the unfortunate event, indicating that political figures are not immune to risks in the country. She alluded to recent political shifts, implying Ajit Pawar was likely to realign with his party’s foundational politics.

Banerjee asserted that only the Supreme Court can be relied upon to oversee the inquiry, claiming that central investigative agencies are compromised. She extended her sympathies to Ajit Pawar’s family, including his uncle Sharad Pawar, and the citizens of Maharashtra.

Ajit Pawar was among five casualties when a chartered plane crash-landed at the Baramati airport in Pune district. The aircraft, operated by VSR Ventures of Delhi, resulted in the loss of all onboard, as reported by the aviation regulator DGCA.

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has also called for an inquiry into the crash, albeit without linking it to political motives. He expressed profound sorrow over Ajit Pawar's passing and offered heartfelt condolences to the Pawar family and their supporters.

Kharge remarked on Ajit Pawar’s extensive political experience and contributions to Maharashtra, acknowledging his legacy of dedication and leadership.
