Marco Rubio Highlights Taj Mahal's Significance

Post by : Shakul

During an official visit to India, Marco Rubio admired the Taj Mahal, calling it a “true treasure of the world.” Accompanied by his wife Jeanette, he spent about 90 minutes touring this iconic cultural site.

Rubio left a heartfelt message in the visitors’ book, expressing his gratitude to the Indian authorities for the opportunity to witness one of the globe’s greatest symbols. He was joined by US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor throughout the visit.

The Taj Mahal continues to attract global figures and dignitaries, having been built by Mughal emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his wife Mumtaz Mahal. This majestic white marble structure is renowned for its exquisite Mughal architecture and draws millions of visitors annually.

This excursion is part of Rubio’s four-day diplomatic tour of India. His itinerary also included a visit to the Missionaries of Charity in Kolkata, followed by significant discussions in New Delhi with Indian officials, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar.

Rubio’s trip precedes the upcoming Quad Summit in India, where leaders from India, the United States, Australia, and Japan will converse about Indo-Pacific security and regional challenges.

The Taj Mahal has previously hosted numerous global dignitaries, including former US President Donald Trump, who once referred to it as a timeless emblem of Indian cultural richness.

A UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1983, the Taj Mahal significantly underscores India’s cultural relevance and its expanding influence in global diplomatic circles.
