Major Fire Destroys Commercial Units in Srinagar's Barzalla Area

Post by : Bianca Haleem

A significant fire broke out this evening in the Barzalla region of Srinagar, impacting various commercial properties, including a carpet factory, as per reports from officials.

Initial findings suggest the blaze started at a junkyard and swiftly extended to nearby buildings containing highly flammable substances such as foam, paint, thinner, and carpets. The resulting inferno sent thick black smoke spiraling into the atmosphere, noticeable from several kilometers away.

Fire and Emergency Services dispatched numerous firefighting units to manage the situation. Emergency responders fought the fire for several hours, contending with difficult conditions to halt its advance into nearby residential areas.

While battling the fire, two firefighters were injured and promptly transported to a local hospital for care. Their condition is reported to be stable.

Senior officials from administrative and fire departments arrived at the scene to supervise the firefighting efforts and by coordinating relief operations.

Authorities have indicated that the fire has mostly been contained; however, cooling operations are ongoing as certain areas of the affected buildings continue to flare up. The precise cause of the fire is still unknown, pending an investigation.
