Mbappe Nears France Goal Record After Brazil Strike

Post by : Bianca Haleem

France captain Kylian Mbappe is now just one goal away from becoming his country’s all-time top scorer after finding the net in a 2-1 international friendly win over Brazil.

The forward opened the scoring with a composed chip over Brazilian goalkeeper Ederson in the first half, continuing his exceptional run in international football. The goal marked Mbappe’s 56th strike for France in just 95 appearances.

France Edge Brazil in Friendly Clash

France extended their lead through Liverpool striker Hugo Ekitike, who added a second goal to strengthen the team’s position. Brazil responded later in the match through Bremer, but France held firm to secure a 2-1 victory.

Giroud’s Record Under Threat

Mbappe now trails Olivier Giroud by just one goal. Giroud remains France’s all-time leading scorer with 57 goals in 137 appearances. With his current form, Mbappe is widely expected to equal or surpass the record in the upcoming fixtures.

Next Challenge Against Colombia

France will next face Colombia in Washington, D.C., where Mbappe will have the opportunity to match or break the long-standing record. The match is part of an international series being played in the United States.

Focus on 2026 World Cup Preparations

France are currently participating in a set of friendly matches alongside Brazil, Colombia, and Croatia as part of their preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The tournament will be jointly hosted by the United States, Mexico, and Canada.

Mbappe’s Legacy Continues to Grow

At 27, Mbappe has already established himself as one of France’s greatest players. He played a crucial role in the country’s 2018 World Cup triumph and delivered a memorable performance in the 2022 final.

His goal-scoring consistency places him ahead of several French legends, including Thierry Henry, Michel Platini, and Zinedine Zidane in terms of efficiency.

Eyes on History

With the scoring record within reach and another World Cup on the horizon, Mbappe now stands on the brink of making history and further cementing his status among football’s all-time greats.
