Kylian Mbappé scored two goals as France defeated Senegal 3-1 in a World Cup Group I match on Tuesday. The win helped France continue their strong start in the tournament and also saw Mbappe become France’s all-time top scorer.
Senegal started the match with strong energy and created early chances. France struggled to find rhythm in the first half, even though they had more possession of the ball. Senegal’s attack tested the French defence, but they failed to convert their chances into goals.
In the second half, France improved their performance. Mbappe broke the deadlock in the 66th minute after a well-placed pass from Michael Olise. He finished the move calmly to give France a 1-0 lead.
France then doubled their lead in the 82nd minute when substitute Bradley Barcola scored after a smart assist from Adrien Rabiot. The goal gave France full control of the match.
Senegal tried to fight back and scored in stoppage time through Ibrahim Mbaye, who produced a strong finish to reduce the gap to 2-1. However, France responded immediately.
Mbappe sealed the win with a powerful long-range strike in added time. The goal was his second of the match and took his international goal tally to 58, making him France’s all-time top scorer.
With this performance, Mbappe also moved higher in World Cup scoring records, reaching 14 tournament goals and joining some of football’s greatest names in World Cup history.
After the match, Mbappe said it was important for France to start the tournament with a win, even though the team still needed improvement. Senegal’s coach said his team had chances in the first half but could not finish them.
The result gives France a strong position in their World Cup group, while Senegal will look to recover in their next match.
