MGX, the Artificial Intelligence Infrastructure Partnership (AIP), and BlackRock's Global Infrastructure Partners (GIP) have completed the previously announced acquisition of 100% equity in Aligned Data Centers. The company was acquired from private infrastructure funds managed by Macquarie Asset Management and its co-investment partners.
The transaction values Aligned Data Centers at an enterprise value of approximately US$40 billion, making it one of the largest private investments ever completed in the digital infrastructure sector.
Aligned Data Centers is among the world's largest and fastest-growing developers of data centers. The company has a portfolio of 51 campuses with more than 6.4 gigawatts (GW) of operational and planned capacity.
Its facilities are located in major digital gateway markets across the United States, including Northern Virginia, Chicago, Dallas, Ohio, Phoenix, and Salt Lake City. The company also has a presence in São Paulo, Querétaro, and Santiago, supporting growing digital infrastructure demand across the Americas.
Following the completion of the acquisition, Andrew Schaap will continue to serve as Chief Executive Officer alongside the existing management team.
Aligned Data Centers will also continue to operate from its headquarters in Dallas, Texas, while maintaining its operational independence under the new ownership.
The consortium said its combined strengths cover the full advanced computing ecosystem as well as the digital and energy infrastructure needed to support the next generation of artificial intelligence.
The partnership brings together expertise in AI technologies, large-scale infrastructure investment, ownership and operations, along with long-term financial support that will allow Aligned to expand its platform while continuing to focus on customers, local communities and independent operations.
With backing from the consortium, Aligned plans to continue creating economic benefits in the communities where it operates. These efforts include generating local employment opportunities, investing in workforce development, redeveloping legacy sites, strengthening local tax bases and improving grid resilience.
The company also plans to expand its data center footprint to meet rising customer demand for AI-ready infrastructure. In addition, it aims to continue developing sustainable, high-density digital infrastructure designed to support increasingly complex computing requirements.

The Artificial Intelligence Infrastructure Partnership (AIP) was created to bring together global technology leaders and mobilise long-term investment for next-generation AI infrastructure projects.
The acquisition of Aligned Data Centers marks AIP's first investment and supports its initial goal of mobilising US$30 billion in equity capital. The partnership has the potential to support up to US$100 billion in total investment, including debt financing.
Alongside the completion of the acquisition, the consortium has also committed an additional US$5 billion in growth capital to support Aligned's continued expansion and increase its AI-ready data center capacity.
