Modi Urges Commitment to Environment on World Environment Day

Post by : Shakul

In celebration of World Environment Day 2026, Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged individuals, organizations, and policy-makers to deepen their commitment to protecting the environment and fostering sustainable development. He emphasized the importance of environmental stewardship for a healthier and prosperous future for generations to come.

Reflecting on India’s environmental advancements over the past decade, Prime Minister Modi noted the substantial strides made in increasing green cover, safeguarding biodiversity, and enhancing conservation efforts. He pointed out that targeted wildlife conservation initiatives have led to population increases in several species.

The Prime Minister acknowledged the critical role played by citizens, local communities, scientists, environmental organizations, and government entities in driving significant environmental improvements. He stated that India’s successes illustrate the synergy possible between public engagement, scientific progress, and sound policy-making for sustainable outcomes.

World Environment Day, celebrated annually on June 5, aims to raise awareness about environmental issues and galvanize action for natural resource protection. Various initiatives, including awareness campaigns, tree-planting activities, and educational programs, were conducted across India to commemorate the day and endorse sustainable living.

PM Modi reiterated the necessity for economic advancement to align with environmental protection, emphasizing the government's commitment to investing in renewable energy, eco-friendly infrastructure, innovative technologies, and climate-resilient development pathways.

Experts in environmental science believe that India’s intensified focus on sustainability through renewable energy, wildlife conservation, and resource management has bolstered its position in global environmental conversations. These steps are seen as crucial in facilitating the achievement of long-term sustainability targets.

Facing escalating challenges such as climate change, pollution, and biodiversity depletion, the Prime Minister urged individuals to engage in responsible consumption and conservation practices. He asserted that collective actions are vital for forging a greener, more sustainable future for all.
