Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that Israel will maintain its military presence in southern Lebanon indefinitely, as Defense Minister Israel Katz cautioned Iran against retaliating to Israeli military activities in the region.
During a ceremony for new combat officers on Thursday, Netanyahu remarked that Israel's role has evolved from simply controlling land to establishing what he termed "commanding terrain" in southern Lebanon, especially in areas near Beaufort. He emphasized that Israeli forces will not withdraw from these strategic positions.
"We are not planning to withdraw from this territory," Netanyahu asserted. "Our mission is to safeguard northern residents and all Israeli citizens from this vantage point."
Netanyahu stated that he, along with Defense Minister Israel Katz, has instructed the military to act decisively against any threats towards Israeli personnel or communities in the northern sector.
Katz elaborated on Israel's strategic military stance in the area, directly associating the situation in Lebanon with Iran. He declared that Israel would sustain its security measures in Lebanon, Syria, and Gaza indefinitely, undeterred by external pressures.
The defense minister further cautioned Tehran against interpreting Israeli military operations in Lebanon as justification for escalating conflicts.
"Should Iran launch an attack on Israel due to our actions in Lebanon, or for any other reason, we will retaliate with full force," Katz warned, adding that Israel's military capabilities far exceed those of its adversaries.
Netanyahu reiterated Israel's firm stance regarding Iran's nuclear ambitions, asserting that under his leadership, Iran will not be permitted to develop nuclear weapons, irrespective of any agreements.
The statements from both leaders highlight Israel's commitment to maintaining a military foothold in critical security areas while asserting its right to respond to perceived threats against its forces and civilian populace.
