New Jersey Woman of Indian Descent Charged with Murdering Her Two Sons

Post by : Meena Hassan

In a deeply upsetting case, a 35-year-old woman of Indian descent has been charged with the murders of her two young sons in New Jersey, a situation that has shaken the local community.

The woman, identified as Priyatharsini Natarajan and residing in Hillsborough Township, came under investigation following a shocking emergency call on January 13. The call was made by a man believed to be the boys' father.

At approximately 6:45 pm, this individual contacted emergency services, reporting that he found his two sons, aged five and seven, unconscious in their home. He suggested that his wife might be responsible for this tragedy.

Upon their swift arrival, police found both Natarajan and the caller at the residence. Officers quickly discovered the unresponsive boys in a bedroom.

Despite immediate medical intervention attempts, the children were pronounced dead at the scene.

Somerset County Prosecutor John McDonald stated that investigators have concluded that Natarajan played a role in her children's deaths, although specific details on the circumstances remain undisclosed.

The names of the children have not yet been made public, awaiting confirmation by the Medical Examiner’s Office following standard procedures.

Natarajan has been taken into custody by Hillsborough Township Police and faces two counts of first-degree murder and one charge of third-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose. Details regarding the alleged weapon have not been revealed.

Currently held at Somerset County Jail, she is expected to attend a detention hearing where a judge will determine if she will be denied bail during the trial process.

This investigation involves multiple law enforcement agencies, including the Hillsborough Township Police and the Somerset County Prosecutor's Office Major Crimes Unit. Evidence has been secured from the home as a part of ongoing forensic analysis, with a postmortem examination scheduled to confirm the children's identities and ascertain the cause of death.

Prosecutor McDonald affirmed that the investigation remains active, promising to release more information as appropriate while the evidence collection continues.

The case has sparked significant concern within the community, highlighting the heartbreaking nature of the allegations. Authorities emphasize the need for the public to refrain from speculation as the legal proceedings unfold.

There are currently no details available regarding motives or mental health factors, with these being areas of focus in the ongoing investigation.

Should Natarajan be convicted, she faces the possibility of life in prison under New Jersey law, as legal proceedings are set to advance in the upcoming weeks.

Officials remain committed to conducting a thorough investigation, balancing the pursuit of justice with the need to respect the tragic impact on the affected families.
