Oil Prices Rise on Middle East Supply Concerns

Post by : Shweta

Oil Prices Move Higher

Oil prices increased on October 8 as markets continued to monitor concerns about supplies from the Middle East. Ongoing regional tensions have raised questions about the stability of energy supplies and added pressure to global oil markets.

Brent Crude Above $101

Brent crude futures rose $1.33, or 1.33 percent, to $101.53 a barrel. The increase came after prices declined at the end of the previous trading session as investors assessed measures aimed at supporting global fuel supplies.

US Crude Also Gains

US West Texas Intermediate crude futures increased $1.11, or 1.26 percent, to $89.39 a barrel. The rise reflected renewed attention to supply risks and fresh inventory data from the United States.

Global Stockpile Measures

The International Energy Agency agreed to accelerate the release of oil stockpiles and prioritize diesel supplies under a plan launched in March. Governments are using the measures as they respond to high fuel prices and supply disruptions in international markets.

US Oil Inventories Decline

Data from the United States provided additional support for oil prices. The Energy Information Administration reported that US crude oil inventories fell by 3.2 million barrels in the week ending October 2, reaching 424.1 million barrels.

Diesel and Jet Fuel Stocks Also Fall

US distillate fuel inventories, which include diesel and jet fuel, declined by 42,000 barrels to 105.14 million barrels. The level remained below the average levels recorded around this time of year during the previous five years.

Market Outlook Remains Focused on Supply

Oil markets are now balancing Middle East supply concerns with government stockpile measures and changing US inventories. Traders are likely to continue watching regional developments, production levels and inventory data for signals about the direction of crude prices.
