The Sultanate of Oman has strongly condemned Israeli settlement activities on Palestinian land in the occupied West Bank. The Omani Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement on August 21, expressing opposition to the expansion of settlements and calling for respect for international law.
Oman said the settlement measures are unilateral and illegal and constitute a serious violation of international law. The statement specifically referred to the Fourth Geneva Convention and relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions.
According to Oman, continued settlement expansion threatens international efforts to achieve a two-state solution. Muscat said the goal should remain the establishment of an independent Palestinian state living alongside Israel in peace and security.
The Omani government said expanding settlements could further reduce opportunities for peace and deepen instability across the region. It argued that such developments conflict with international efforts to achieve a just and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian issue.
Oman called on the international community to unite in condemning settlement activities and take practical measures to ensure accountability under international law. It also urged Israel to fulfil its legal responsibilities and immediately halt settlement expansion.
Oman said lasting and just peace can only be achieved through respect for international law and recognition of the Palestinian people's rights. The statement reflects Muscat's continued support for diplomatic efforts aimed at resolving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
