Oman Customs has successfully foiled a major drug smuggling attempt after officers intercepted 5.4 kilograms of marijuana concealed inside food containers in a postal package arriving from Thailand.
According to customs authorities, the operation was launched after officials received intelligence about a suspicious shipment. During a detailed inspection, customs officers discovered the narcotics carefully hidden within food containers packed inside the parcel.
Following the seizure, Oman Customs coordinated with the Directorate General for Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances Control to monitor the shipment and identify those involved in the smuggling operation.
The joint operation resulted in the swift arrest of the individual linked to the illegal package. Authorities confirmed that the suspect was taken into custody immediately after efforts to track the shipment were completed.
Officials praised the cooperation between customs and anti-narcotics authorities, highlighting the importance of intelligence-led operations in preventing illegal drugs from entering the Sultanate.
The case remains under investigation, and legal procedures against the suspect are underway.
