Oman Accelerates Development Projects Across South Al Sharqiyah

South Al Sharqiyah Sees Major Infrastructure and Investment Activity

Several development, service and investment projects are progressing across Jaalan Bani Bu Ali, Jaalan Bani Bu Hassan and Al Kamil Wal Wafi in Oman’s South Al Sharqiyah Governorate. The projects cover roads, education, healthcare, agriculture, fisheries, tourism and environmental development, reflecting ongoing efforts to strengthen infrastructure and support economic activity across the governorate.

Major Road and Infrastructure Projects Move Forward

In Jaalan Bani Bu Ali, several road projects are at different stages of completion. These include the second phase of the commercial and coastal road in Asilah, internal roads in the coastal and central areas, improvements to roads in the industrial area and maintenance of roads damaged by the monsoon depression. The projects also include water drainage consultancy studies and waterfront development in Al-Ashkharah.The reported road and related infrastructure projects in Jaalan Bani Bu Ali have a combined stated cost of more than 12.6 million Omani rials. Several projects have reached advanced completion stages, while others remain under construction or design.

Schools and Healthcare Facilities Included

Education is another major part of the development programme. Restoration and maintenance work is being carried out at several schools in Jaalan Bani Bu Ali, alongside the construction of new school facilities. One new school with 40 mixed classrooms for grades 1 to 4 has reached 79 percent completion, while another 40-classroom school for girls in grades 5 to 8 is at 13 percent completion.Healthcare infrastructure is also being expanded. The Al-Falah Hospital project in Jaalan Bani Bu Ali has reached 60 percent completion, while the health centre project has reached 77 percent, according to the Oman News Agency report.

Fisheries and Agriculture Projects Add Economic Capacity

Agriculture and fisheries are central to several projects in the governorate. The Wadi Sal project in Jaalan Bani Bu Ali has been completed, while rehabilitation work for fish landing sites in Al-Daffa, Ruwais and Suwaih has also reached full completion. A project aimed at reducing sand deposition at Al-Ashkharah fishing port is also underway.A white-legged shrimp aquaculture project in Jaalan Bani Bu Ali, valued at 17 million Omani rials, has reached 100 percent completion. In Jaalan Bani Bu Hassan, a similar aquaculture project valued at 21.5 million Omani rials has also been completed.

Jaalan Bani Bu Hassan Sees Continued Investment

Jaalan Bani Bu Hassan is also seeing substantial infrastructure activity, including internal road construction, road maintenance and development of the Qahwan route. The education programme includes construction of a school with 34 combined classrooms for grades 1 to 12 and partial maintenance work at Al Asala School.Maintenance work has also been carried out on several traditional aflaj irrigation channels in the area. The projects form part of efforts to maintain agricultural infrastructure while supporting local communities and economic activity.

Al Kamil Wal Wafi Advances Major Transport Projects

In Al Kamil Wal Wafi, development work includes tourism facilities in the Siq area, development of Al Hira, internal roads, maintenance of monsoon-damaged roads and construction of a concrete road in Hawar. These projects have a combined stated cost of about 2.58 million Omani rials.One of the largest infrastructure projects in the area is the completion of the dual carriageway of Sultan Turki bin Said Road between Al Kamil Wal Wafi and Sur. The project has reached 90 percent completion and has a reported cost of 71.624 million Omani rials.

Smart Farming and Fisheries Industrial City Project

Agricultural development is also progressing in Al Kamil Wal Wafi. A smart farming project for vegetable production has reached full completion at a reported cost of 6.5 million Omani rials, while an expansion project for fig cultivation has also been completed.The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources has also signed an agreement for consultancy services related to the proposed fisheries industrial city in South Al Sharqiyah. The agreement, valued at 1.637 million Omani rials, covers technical studies, engineering designs and related consultancy work for the project.

Development Strategy Linked to Oman 2040

South Al Sharqiyah Governor Dr. Yahya bin Badr Al-Maawali said the governorate’s economic, tourism, logistics and environmental assets provide a foundation for continued development. He highlighted the importance of coordination between government institutions, the private sector and society, with a focus on projects capable of creating sustainable economic impact.The Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s South Al Sharqiyah branch also highlighted investment opportunities in fisheries, tourism, logistics, food security, renewable energy and manufacturing. The projects and investment initiatives are being presented as part of broader efforts aligned with the objectives of Oman Vision 2040, including economic diversification, stronger local content and development across the governorate.
