The collaboration between Etihad Rail, Oman Rail, and Mubadala Investment Company has led to the Hafeet Rail project reaching 40% completion, marking a significant advancement in the Oman-UAE railway initiative. This essential infrastructure project aims to bolster transport capabilities across the region.
Spanning 238 kilometres, the railway is designed to facilitate efficient transportation, enhancing trade flow and strengthening economic links between Oman and the UAE.
Construction is underway in key areas, including Al Ain Region, Al Buraimi, Sohar, and Wadi Al Jizzi, showcasing advanced engineering techniques necessary for navigating the diverse landscapes, including tunnels and bridges.
To date, over 27 million cubic metres of earthwork has been completed, with concrete work exceeding 100,000 cubic metres. Current activities include the ongoing development of around 80 structures, coupled with the installation of 900 concrete piles and 130 box culverts.
Abdulrahman Al Hatmi, CEO of Asyad Group, emphasized the project's swift progress, affirming the dedication of all parties involved and underscoring the contribution of local expertise in the project's success.
Ahmed AlMusawa AlHashemi, CEO of Hafeet Rail, noted that reaching the 40% mark reflects substantial development. He assured that priorities include maintaining momentum, ensuring safety, and delivering quality outcomes, with 10 million safe work hours logged without any major incidents.
Internationally compliant technologies for signalling and communications are being integrated, which will enhance operational capacity and efficiency across both nations.
The railway will also pave the way for future passenger services, facilitating travel for both tourists and business professionals, in accordance with national aspirations like Oman Vision 2040 and the UAE’s development strategies.
In conclusion, the Oman-UAE rail project not only aims to advance economic development but also seeks to reduce reliance on road transport, lower carbon emissions, and promote greater regional interconnectedness, reflecting a unified vision for a sustainable future.
