Omar Al Marzooqi Triumphs at Lisbon Grand Prix

Post by : Bianca Haleem

Omar Abdul Aziz Al Marzooqi from the UAE showcased an impressive performance, securing the CSIO3* Lisbon Grand Prix at the esteemed Sociedade Hípica Portuguesa.

Partnered with his horse Chacco Bay, Al Marzooqi was one of only two riders to navigate a double-clear round on the challenging 1.55m course designed by Bernardo Costa Cabral. He clinched the win in the jump-off with a remarkable time of 38.43 seconds.

Finishing in the runner-up position was France's Edouard Chauvet riding Zia Mia de la Bonn Z, with Portugal's Duarte Seabra taking third place.

This victory marks the second time that Al Marzooqi and Chacco Bay have triumphed together, further establishing them as key contenders in the international show jumping arena. Al Marzooqi is currently ranked in the top 10 of the FEI U25 standings.

The competition was part of the rejuvenated CSIO Lisbon event, with significant support from Al Shira’aa Stables, which has been instrumental in reinstating premier international contests in Portugal.

After his win, Al Marzooqi expressed how meaningful this victory was to him, particularly at a historic venue returning after a hiatus, and extended gratitude to Al Shira’aa for their ongoing support.

Sami Kettle, the Global Operations Director at Al Shira’aa, commended Al Marzooqi's stellar performance, emphasizing the importance of collaboration and the long-term nurturing of equestrian talent in the UAE.

This success aligns with the broader vision of Sheikha Fatima bint Hazza bin Zayed Al Nahyan, who has been a driving force in promoting the growth of equestrian sports and the restoration of significant international events.

Al Shira’aa is also set to revive the Lisbon Nations Cup in 2026, further solidifying its commitment to enhancing European equestrian sports.
