Omar Al Marzooqi Appointed Athlete Role Model for Dakar 2026

Post by : Bianca Haleem

UAE show jumping star Omar Al Marzooqi has been recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) as an Athlete Role Model for the forthcoming Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games, set to occur in Senegal.

This edition of the Youth Olympic Games will mark a historic milestone as the first Olympic sports event hosted on African soil. Scheduled from 31 October to 13 November 2026, it will bring together young athletes from across the globe.

Al Marzooqi etched his name in history in 2018, becoming the first Emirati to earn a medal at the Youth Olympic Games. He clinched silver in individual show jumping at the third Summer Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires, competing against nearly 4,000 athletes from 206 nations.

The IOC's recent announcement highlights 36 athletes drawn from 25 sporting disciplines and 10 engagement sports. This elite group includes Olympic champions and medalists dedicated to mentoring and aiding youthful talents during the Dakar 2026 event.

Selected athletes will deliver support in both athletic and mental aspects, engage in workshops, interactive sessions, and impart Olympic ideals and personal experiences to the next generation of sports enthusiasts.

The roster features numerous acclaimed athletes, such as French judo star Clarisse Agbegnenou, Algerian gymnast Kaylia Nemour, Brazilian skateboarding talent Rayssa Leal, and Egyptian table tennis competitor Dina Meshref.
