Oscar de la Renta Introduces Emirati-Inspired Caftan in Abu Dhabi

Post by : Bianca Haleem

Under the leadership of Her Highness Sheikha Shamsa bint Hamdan Al Nahyan, the Design Commission Abu Dhabi (DCAD) is enhancing the city’s status as a dynamic center for sustainable luxury and design innovation. This initiative is pivotal in nurturing a future-driven creative economy influenced by advanced technology and artificial intelligence.

The strategic vision of DCAD aims to establish Abu Dhabi as a producer and proprietor of internationally recognized design intellect, while also promoting local materials and advanced textile development. It seeks to cultivate talent through international partnerships, specialized training, and capacity-building initiatives that highlight Abu Dhabi’s growing role in the global design arena.

In line with this vision, luxury brand Oscar de la Renta is set to present an unique caftan in cooperation with DCAD during the upcoming Pre-Spring Collection Preview in Abu Dhabi. This event signifies a significant milestone in the brand’s regional efforts, showcasing a custom design that integrates Emirati cultural elements with modern couture.

Drawing inspiration from the traditional Emirati thobe, the caftan embodies the cultural essence of Abu Dhabi alongside natural floral motifs. This limited-edition piece is crafted from porcelain flower-printed silk georgette, layered with ivory silk georgette plumetis, and features intricate three-dimensional floral thread-work details. The design harmoniously unites Oscar de la Renta’s renowned craftsmanship with regional artistic influences.

The concept behind the collaboration stems from a visit to Abu Dhabi in 2025 by Oscar de la Renta Co-Creative Director, Laura Kim. During her stay, Kim immersed herself in local art, architecture, decorative stonework, and traditional Emirati attire, all of which significantly informed the caftan’s creation, resulting in a piece that beautifully marries heritage with contemporary luxury.

This exclusive caftan will be available for special order during the Oscar de la Renta Pre-Spring Collection Preview at the Emirates Palace Mandarin Oriental, Abu Dhabi, with private appointments set from January 13 to January 15, 2026.
