Pakistan Announces Strikes on 10 Afghan Locations
Pakistan said it conducted precision air and drone strikes against 10 locations inside Afghanistan on Thursday. Information Minister Attaullah Tarar said the targets were used for launching and storing drones that Pakistan says had been sent into its territory from Afghanistan.
Islamabad Says Strikes Followed Drone Incursion
According to Pakistan, drones launched from Afghan territory entered Pakistani airspace on Wednesday. Pakistani officials said the country's air defence systems detected and neutralised the drones before they reached their intended targets. Islamabad described the subsequent strikes as a response to what it called an unlawful violation of Pakistani sovereignty.

Afghan Officials Report Four People Killed
Afghan authorities reported that four people were killed in the Pakistani strikes. Reuters reported that Afghan officials described those killed as civilians. The strikes reportedly affected locations in Afghanistan's southern and eastern areas, including parts of Kandahar, Paktia and Khost, according to reporting from international news agencies.
Afghanistan Denies Responsibility for Drone Attacks
The Afghan Taliban government has denied that it was responsible for launching drones into Pakistan. The dispute over the origin of the drones is central to the latest escalation, with Pakistan accusing Afghan territory of being used for hostile operations while Afghan authorities reject the allegation.
Pakistan Says Targets Were Military Sites
Tarar said the strikes were limited to what Pakistan described as identified military objectives directly connected to attempted attacks against Pakistan. He said Islamabad did not seek escalation but would respond to threats against its territory. Pakistan has repeatedly raised concerns about militant activity it says is operating from Afghan territory.
Pakistan Afghanistan Tensions Continue to Rise
The latest strikes come only days after another round of Pakistani airstrikes in Afghanistan. On September 21, Pakistan said its forces had killed 28 militants in strikes near the Afghan border, while Afghan authorities and the United Nations reported that three civilians were killed. The repeated incidents have increased concern over further cross-border violence.
Latest Strikes Add to Regional Security Concerns
The new strikes represent another escalation in relations between Islamabad and Kabul. Both sides have exchanged accusations over cross-border attacks and militant activity.
