Through its subsidiary in Greece, PureHealth has officially unveiled the University of Nicosia (UNIC) Athens campus, which introduces an innovative approach to healthcare education by merging medical training with cutting-edge artificial intelligence (AI), data analytics, and digital health technologies.
The university is dedicated to equipping future healthcare professionals with the necessary skills for technologically advanced healthcare systems, ensuring that digital tools are seamlessly integrated into clinical training. Students will learn in an environment where healthcare, research, technology, and practical clinical experience converge.
The launch ceremony saw participation from significant government officials and academic leaders from Greece, Cyprus, and the United Arab Emirates, underscoring the strategic importance of this initiative. Among those present were Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides, UAE Ambassador to Greece Dr. Ali Obaid Ali Al Dhaheri, PureHealth Group CEO Shaista Asif, and senior representatives from the University of Nicosia.
This initiative is part of PureHealth’s larger global vision to unify healthcare delivery, research, and education within a singular system. The company seeks to transfer vital medical expertise and operational knowledge between countries, specifically the UAE, Greece, and Cyprus.
UAE Ambassador Dr. Ali Obaid Ali Al Dhaheri emphasized how the project reflects the robust partnership between the UAE and Greece. He remarked that it showcases their mutual commitment to enhancing innovation in both healthcare and education, while also facilitating talent development and sustainable growth.
Shaista Asif, CEO of PureHealth Group, stressed the necessity of adapting to advancements in the healthcare sector driven by technology and data integration. She mentioned that the university's foundation will nurture proficient healthcare professionals and enhance collaboration between educational frameworks and healthcare services.
Greek Minister of Education Sofia Zacharaki referred to the launch as a pivotal moment for the advancement of higher education in Greece. She expressed that the establishment supports the nation’s objective to improve the quality and competitive edge of its educational sector, boosting Greece’s status as a hub for academic excellence.
According to Panagiotis Skandalakis, President of the Council of UNIC Athens, the institution aims to revolutionize medical education by making artificial intelligence central to its curriculum. He noted that students will be trained for careers in healthcare settings where technology, clinical practice, and data integration are paramount.
The launch strengthens the ongoing collaboration between the UAE and Greece, building on their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership initiated in 2020. This effort aligns with the UAE's key developmental plans, including We the UAE 2031 and Abu Dhabi Economic Vision 2030, designed to enhance advanced healthcare systems and international cooperation.
With the intention of addressing significant challenges in Europe’s healthcare landscape, including a looming shortage of healthcare professionals and the urgent need for AI-centric healthcare solutions, the university prepares to train a workforce capable of meeting these demands. Projections forecast Europe could experience a shortfall of up to one million healthcare workers by 2030, making workforce development a pressing priority.
Students attending UNIC Athens will access practical training within PureHealth’s healthcare network in Greece, which caters to over 1.3 million patients annually. The institution will also implement talent exchange programs in collaboration with prominent organizations in the UAE, offering students opportunities to gain invaluable international experience and knowledge sharing in key healthcare markets.
Ultimately, PureHealth strives to cultivate a new generation of healthcare professionals equipped with the essential skills to navigate the challenges of contemporary healthcare systems.
