Qatar Launches Major Healthcare Initiative
Qatar Fund for Development and Qatar Red Crescent Society have launched a new healthcare project in Bangladesh aimed at improving access to essential medical services for Rohingya refugees.
The humanitarian initiative is designed to ensure continuous medical support for vulnerable refugees and strengthen healthcare services inside the refugee camps. The project reflects Qatar's wider efforts to support humanitarian programs for communities facing difficult living conditions.
Healthcare Support for 33,850 Refugees
The project will operate through the Primary Health Care Center at Camp #9 and is expected to serve approximately 33,850 Rohingya refugees over a period of 12 months.

The initiative is being implemented in cooperation with BRAC, a local partner in Bangladesh. The health center will provide a broad range of medical services to refugees, including routine healthcare and emergency assistance.
24-Hour Emergency and Medical Services
The health center will provide outpatient consultations, 24-hour emergency services and inpatient care. It will also offer prenatal and postnatal maternal healthcare, natural childbirth services, vaccinations and laboratory testing.
The project will also ensure access to essential medicines and treatment for both communicable and noncommunicable diseases. Ambulance services and medical referral systems will help patients reach additional healthcare facilities when specialized treatment is required.
Focus on Mothers and Children
Maternal and child healthcare is one of the major priorities of the project. Medical teams will monitor pregnancies, conduct regular checkups and provide essential medicines and health guidance to mothers.
Women will also receive information about warning signs during pregnancy and after childbirth. The center will provide family planning services and promote better nutrition practices for mothers and children.
Mental Health and Disease Prevention
The healthcare project will also provide mental health and psychosocial support services. These services are intended to address wider health needs among refugees beyond physical medical treatment.
Public health education will form another important part of the initiative. Healthcare workers will help with early detection of illnesses, guide patients toward appropriate services and strengthen disease prevention measures within the refugee community.
Preparedness for Health Emergencies
The project will support preparedness for possible disease outbreaks, epidemics and other health risks. Early identification of medical conditions and improved referral systems are expected to help healthcare workers respond more effectively to emerging health concerns.
The initiative also aims to improve awareness among refugees about preventive healthcare and appropriate use of available medical services. These measures can help strengthen the overall health response within the camp.
Qatar Expands Humanitarian Healthcare Support
The Qatar Fund for Development and Qatar Red Crescent Society said the project reflects their commitment to humanitarian work and efforts to reduce the suffering of vulnerable populations.
With support from BRAC, the initiative will provide a comprehensive package of healthcare services to thousands of Rohingya refugees during the next 12 months. The project highlights the role of international humanitarian partnerships in improving access to essential healthcare for displaced communities.
