Qatar Prepares 351 Schools and Kindergartens for New Academic Year
148,000 Students Expected to Begin Classes
Qatar is preparing for the new academic year with 282 public schools and 69 kindergartens ready to receive approximately 148,000 students, according to Maryam Ali AlNesef Al Buainain, Director of the Schools and Student Affairs Department at Qatar's Ministry of Education and Higher Education. The ministry says preparations are focused not only on school readiness but also on improving educational outcomes and student well-being.
Ministry Focuses on Measuring Educational Results
The Ministry of Education and Higher Education says it is moving beyond simply recording activities and observations. Its approach increasingly focuses on measuring the real impact of educational programmes and initiatives on students. New guidelines and policies are intended to provide schools with a unified framework and reduce differences in how administrative procedures are interpreted.
Stronger Support for School Leaders and Staff
The ministry has placed greater emphasis on strengthening teaching and leadership skills. It has introduced the first edition of the Guidelines for Public School Principals, outlining the responsibilities and roles of school leaders. Separate administrative staff guidelines also provide job descriptions for different administrative and supervisory positions.

New school leaders will receive intensive support as they begin their roles. Educational consultants are expected to provide on-site assistance during the opening period of the academic year to help schools maintain operational stability and respond quickly to challenges.
Student Well-Being Remains a Key Priority
Student mental health and well-being will remain an important part of Qatar's education strategy. The ministry's framework includes policies covering student behaviour management, quality of life, school programmes and activities, and protection of student life. The aim is to create a safe and supportive learning environment from kindergarten through Grade 12.
Academic Counselling and Future Career Planning
Qatar is also strengthening academic counselling to help students prepare for university and future careers. Specialised programmes are being used to improve counsellors' skills, support students preparing for standardised tests and increase participation by Qatari students in government scholarship programmes.
Grade 10 students will also receive guidance toward science and technology tracks based on their abilities, interests and Qatar's future workforce requirements. According to the ministry, enrolment in these tracks increased from 8 percent in the 2020-21 academic year to 10.4 percent in 2025-26.
More Focus on Student Activities and Talents
The ministry is planning additional training for school activity specialists and encouraging schools to exchange successful practices. Support will be tailored according to each school's assessment results and specific needs. The objective is to increase participation in school activities while identifying and developing students' talents and abilities.
Monitoring to Begin From First Week of Classes
The ministry says monitoring and evaluation will begin during the first week of classes to ensure schools have a strong start to the new academic year. Officials say support will be adjusted according to field assessments and the actual requirements of individual schools.
