Ramaswamy Breaks Fundraising Records for Ohio Gubernatorial Bid

Post by : Bianca Haleem

Vivek Ramaswamy, the Republican candidate for governor, has transformed Ohio's fundraising dynamics, amassing an impressive $9.88 million during the latter half of 2025. This achievement elevates his total fundraising for the year to over $19.57 million, marking a record for any candidate in the state's gubernatorial history at this stage.

His team reported that the July–December amount surpasses the $9.7 million raised in the first half of the year, setting a new benchmark in financial support for gubernatorial hopefuls in Ohio. It's important to note that these funds come exclusively from donations, with no personal contributions from Ramaswamy.

Since entering the race in late February 2025, Ramaswamy has actively campaigned statewide, participating in over 110 events that also served to bolster fundraising. Earlier reports indicate that a significant number of individual donors supported his campaign, reflecting grassroots backing rather than major self-investments.

The scale of his fundraising has already exceeded what past gubernatorial candidates in Ohio have reported. Data from Ramaswamy's initial finance disclosures indicate his fundraising eclipses the total campaign receipts of many former governors and major nominees from both major political parties in previous election years.

In addition to impressive fundraising, the campaign has garnered numerous endorsements from various political and civic groups in Ohio, including those that typically align with Democratic candidates. This early financial success places Ramaswamy among the key candidates in the race to succeed term-limited Governor Mike DeWine in the upcoming 2026 election.

If victorious, Ramaswamy would join Bobby Jindal and Nikki Haley as the third Indian American to govern a U.S. state. His campaign finance report for the period ending December 31, 2025, is anticipated to be submitted to the Ohio Secretary of State by January 31, 2026.
