Bollywood Actor Ranveer Singh Receives Threat After Rohit Shetty Firing Incident

Post by : Mariam Al-Faris

A fortnight after gunshots were fired outside filmmaker Rohit Shetty’s residence in Juhu, actor Ranveer Singh reportedly received a threat demanding several crores. The threat came as a WhatsApp voice note sent to Singh’s secretary from an unknown number. The sender claimed to be associated with the Bishnoi gang. Following this, security around Singh and his wife Deepika Padukone’s residence was increased, police sources said.

In a related development, the managing committee of the Beau Monde residential tower in Prabhadevi informed Dadar police about the deployment of six armed private security guards at Singh’s flat without society approval. A uniformed police officer was also reportedly stationed at the property, raising concerns among residents.

Sources indicated that Singh is not the only target. Over the past two weeks, about a dozen Bollywood personalities reportedly received similar threatening calls from individuals claiming to be part of the Bishnoi gang. So far, none of the threatened celebrities have filed complaints or FIRs.

The latest threats come as the Mumbai Crime Branch continues efforts to track the unidentified shooter involved in the firing outside Shetty’s home last month. Reports suggest that nine Crime Branch teams are stationed in Lucknow and nearby towns in Uttar Pradesh to apprehend the suspect, who has been digitally traced to the area.

The surge in threats has caused fear in the Bollywood community, evoking memories of the 1990s and early 2000s when underworld influence, shootouts, and extortion calls were common. Investigators noted that many celebrities, including Singh’s secretary, have blocked unknown numbers or stopped answering unfamiliar calls, which may have prompted the extortionists to send a voice note directly.

The growing menace of the Bishnoi gang, highlighted by the firing outside Salman Khan’s residence, the murder of NCP leader Baba Siddiqui last year, and the attack on Shetty’s home, has further alarmed the film fraternity. Police continue to intensify efforts to arrest the individuals behind these incidents at the earliest.
