Significant Police Operation in Regina Results in Drug and Weapon Seizures

In a notable enforcement action, officers from the Regina Police Service have confiscated a substantial amount of illegal drugs, firearms, and cash, culminating in 30 criminal charges against two individuals from Regina and Saskatoon.

The investigation commenced last week with the apprehension of a 43-year-old man outside a residential area on Arens Road, which led investigators to discover a considerable quantity of illicit substances, weapons, and suspicious assets linked to criminal activities.

According to police, these seizures represent a crucial advance in combatting the circulation of dangerous drugs and firearms in the region.

Details of the Arrest and Drug Findings

The suspect was taken into custody on June 18 while near the 3200 block of Arens Road in Regina.

Upon the arrest, law enforcement allegedly discovered a loaded nine-millimetre firearm, brass knuckles, and a knife in his possession.

Subsequent investigations led to the execution of search warrants at several locations associated with the suspect, yielding approximately 0.5 kg of fentanyl, close to 4.2 kg of methamphetamine, and a minor amount of cocaine.

The total street value of the seized narcotics is estimated to be around $115,000.

Firearms and Ammunition Recovered

In addition to the drugs, police recovered several firearms and a large quantity of ammunition.

The list of seized weapons includes:

  • A modified handgun capable of automatic fire
  • A silenced loaded handgun
  • Two semi-automatic rifles
  • A 12-gauge shotgun

Authorities also seized thousands of rounds of ammunition during the operation.

Some firearms reportedly had modifications that could lead to additional charges related to serial number alterations and improper handling of firearms.

Additional Tactical Equipment Seized

Tactical gear, body armor, and multiple bladed weapons were also confiscated during the searches.

As a result of the operation, the initial suspect faces 28 charges linked to drug trafficking, weapon possession, and firearm modifications.

At a press conference, Regina Police Service Superintendent Kelly Trihart emphasized that reducing the prevalence of illegal drugs and firearms significantly enhances community safety.

Investigation Proceeds to Saskatoon

The investigation subsequently extended its reach to Saskatoon, where authorities executed another search warrant at a property on 5th Avenue North.

During this operation, they confiscated over $31,000 in Canadian currency, a 2016 Ford F-150, drug paraphernalia, and a mobile device.

A 32-year-old man from Saskatoon has been charged with possession of stolen property exceeding $5,000 and drug trafficking.

Altogether, the two suspects now face a total of 30 criminal charges.

Concerns Surrounding Fentanyl Trafficking

This seizure sheds light on the escalating issues surrounding fentanyl trafficking not only in Saskatchewan but across Canada, as health officials continue to highlight its deadly potential.

Law enforcement is intensifying its efforts to dismantle drug trafficking operations and target the illegal possession of firearms.

Future Legal Proceedings

The accused individuals are set to appear in court to address the charges against them, while investigators will continue analyzing evidence from the searches to identify any further suspects involved.

According to police, this operation underscores the vital collaboration between Regina and Saskatoon law enforcement agencies, as they commit to ongoing efforts to curb drug trafficking and remove illegal firearms.
