In a proactive move, Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has launched approximately 40 air-conditioned rest stations designed specifically for delivery riders, ahead of the impending summer.
This initiative aims to enhance road safety, diminish accident risks, and improve the overall work environment and quality of life for delivery personnel. It also encourages adherence to traffic regulations.
Strategically positioned across vital areas in Dubai, including Hessa Street, Al Khawaneej, Al Barsha, Al Satwa, Oud Maitha, Al Karama, and Arjan, the selection of locations was founded on operational insights and an in-depth analysis of high-traffic delivery zones, collaborating closely with delivery service providers.
Each facility boasts exterior adaptations that minimize direct sunlight exposure and enhance thermal insulation while ensuring visibility. The interior features air conditioning, water dispensers, and mobile charging outlets.
Capable of hosting about 10 delivery riders simultaneously, these stations also offer designated motorcycle parking and essential amenities to support riders during breaks.
Ahmed Mahboob, CEO of the Licensing Agency at RTA, emphasized that ensuring traffic safety is the authority’s primary goal, as Dubai endeavors to become a frontrunner in global road safety. He noted the establishment of a structured system to regulate the delivery sector and elevate service standards throughout the emirate.
This initiative is poised to bolster the swiftly expanding delivery sector, furnishing riders with safer and more comfortable working conditions, particularly in harsh summer weather.
