Saudi Arabia Warns Against Threats to Strait of Hormuz Trade

Post by : Bianca Haleem

Saudi Arabia has stressed the importance of protecting the Strait of Hormuz, warning that any disruption in the vital waterway could seriously impact global trade and energy security.

Speaking at a joint press conference organised by Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries and the United States, Dr. Abdulaziz Alwasil, Saudi Arabia’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, highlighted the strategic role of the Strait of Hormuz in maintaining international trade and stable energy supplies.

According to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), Alwasil said that any threat to navigation in the strait would directly affect global markets, international supply chains, and the smooth movement of goods across the world.

He warned that disruptions in the region could also create serious humanitarian and economic challenges, including delays in the delivery of essential goods, medical supplies, and humanitarian aid.

Alwasil emphasised the need to safeguard maritime security and ensure the uninterrupted flow of international trade in line with international law. He also called for stronger international cooperation to reduce tensions in the region and prevent further escalation that could threaten regional and global peace.

The statement came during discussions on a draft resolution focused on protecting freedom of navigation and maritime security in international waters.
