Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman has offered condolences to UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham following the death of Burnham’s father, Roy Burnham. The Saudi Press Agency reported the condolence message on Wednesday.

Andy Burnham said he had received many supportive messages from people across the country and expressed appreciation for the condolences. He also indicated that while the period would be difficult, he intended to return to the responsibilities of government.
Burnham said his father’s condition had become so advanced that he was not aware that his son had become prime minister. Roy Burnham died on September 14, 2026, according to reports.
The UK government confirms that Andy Burnham became prime minister on July 20, 2026. He had previously served as Mayor of Greater Manchester and returned to Parliament in June 2026 before becoming Labour Party leader and prime minister.
The condolence message comes after recent contact between Burnham and Mohammed bin Salman. In July, the two leaders discussed bilateral relations and areas of cooperation, according to reports from the Saudi Press Agency.
The death of Burnham’s father has also prompted messages of sympathy from other regional leaders. Bahrain’s Crown Prince and Prime Minister and Qatar’s Amir were among those reported to have sent condolences to the British prime minister.
