Saudi Crown Prince Condoles With UK PM After Father’s Death

Saudi Crown Prince Sends Condolences

Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman has offered condolences to UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham following the death of Burnham’s father, Roy Burnham. The Saudi Press Agency reported the condolence message on Wednesday.

Condolences Extended to Burnham’s Family

According to the Saudi Press Agency, the Crown Prince conveyed his deepest condolences and sympathy to Burnham and his family and wished the British prime minister continued good health. The message followed the death of Roy Burnham, who had been living with advanced Alzheimer’s disease.

Burnham Thanks People for Support

Andy Burnham said he had received many supportive messages from people across the country and expressed appreciation for the condolences. He also indicated that while the period would be difficult, he intended to return to the responsibilities of government.

Burnham Speaks About His Father

Burnham said his father’s condition had become so advanced that he was not aware that his son had become prime minister. Roy Burnham died on September 14, 2026, according to reports.

Andy Burnham Is UK Prime Minister

The UK government confirms that Andy Burnham became prime minister on July 20, 2026. He had previously served as Mayor of Greater Manchester and returned to Parliament in June 2026 before becoming Labour Party leader and prime minister.

Saudi-UK Contact Continues

The condolence message comes after recent contact between Burnham and Mohammed bin Salman. In July, the two leaders discussed bilateral relations and areas of cooperation, according to reports from the Saudi Press Agency.

Condolences From Regional Leaders

The death of Burnham’s father has also prompted messages of sympathy from other regional leaders. Bahrain’s Crown Prince and Prime Minister and Qatar’s Amir were among those reported to have sent condolences to the British prime minister.
