Danger Alert Lifted in Khamis Mushayt

Saudi Arabia’s Civil Defense has lifted an emergency danger alert in Khamis Mushayt after issuing its fourth warning for the southwestern Saudi governorate within 24 hours. The General Directorate of Saudi Civil Defense said the immediate danger had passed while urging residents to continue following official safety instructions and avoid gatherings and photography in affected areas.

Authorities Urge Residents to Follow Safety Instructions

The Civil Defense asked people to remain cautious even after the alert was lifted. Officials urged residents to follow instructions issued by authorities and stay away from gatherings and areas where photography may be restricted. The emergency number 998 remains available for people who require assistance.

Houthis Claim Attack on Airbase

The latest alert came amid heightened tensions following a claim by Yemen’s Houthis that they had attacked an airbase in the Khamis Mushayt area. The city is located in southern Saudi Arabia and has strategic military importance. Saudi authorities have described the recent escalation as a serious threat to the Kingdom’s territory and infrastructure.

Dozens Reportedly Injured in Recent Attacks

Saudi military spokesman Maj. Gen. Turki Al-Maliki said recent Houthi attacks had targeted civilian and economic sites in Abha, Khamis Mushayt, Jazan and Najran. According to the Saudi statement, 73 civilians were injured, including women and children. Saudi officials said the attacks affected civilian and energy infrastructure and vowed to take operational measures to deter further attacks.

Saudi Government Condemns Escalation

The Saudi Cabinet described the attacks on civilian and economic targets as a serious act of aggression and directed that the injured receive the highest level of medical care. Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Ministry also condemned the attacks and said the Kingdom reserves the right to take necessary measures to defend its sovereignty, territory and resources.

International Community Calls for Attacks to End

The United Nations condemned the reported cross-border attacks and expressed concern over civilian injuries and damage affecting civilian and energy infrastructure. The European Union also urged the Houthis to end all attacks. The Gulf Cooperation Council condemned the targeting of southern Saudi cities, while Pakistan, Algeria and Somalia separately expressed solidarity with Saudi Arabia and condemned attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure.

Regional Security Concerns Remain High

Although the immediate danger alert in Khamis Mushayt has been lifted, the latest developments highlight continuing security concerns across southern Saudi Arabia. The repeated emergency warnings, reported attacks and international condemnation come amid a wider escalation of hostilities in the region. Saudi authorities continue to urge residents to follow official instructions as the Kingdom monitors the security situation.
