Saudi Prince Turki Attends King Harald V’s Funeral

Saudi Minister of State Prince Turki bin Mohammed attended the state funeral of Norway’s King Harald V in Oslo on Wednesday, representing Saudi Arabia’s King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. His attendance highlighted the Kingdom’s official condolences following the death of the Norwegian monarch.

Prince Turki, who is also a member of Saudi Arabia’s Council of Ministers, conveyed the Saudi leadership’s condolences to Norway’s new monarch, King Haakon VIII, over the death of his father. The message reflected the Kingdom’s respect and sympathy for the Norwegian royal family during the period of national mourning.

World Leaders Gather for King Harald’s Funeral

The funeral service was held at Oslo Cathedral and brought together members of royal families, heads of state and senior dignitaries from around the world. Prince Turki joined the international congregation as Norway paid tribute to its late king.

Among the foreign dignitaries attending the service were Jordan’s King Abdullah and Queen Rania, the UK’s Prince William and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. Monarchs from Sweden, Denmark, Spain and the Netherlands were also present at the ceremony.

King Harald V Dies at 89

King Harald V died on August 28 at the age of 89 after spending 35 years on the Norwegian throne. His death marked the end of a long reign during which he served as Norway’s head of state and became a central figure in the country’s modern royal history.

Following his death, Norway entered a 13-day period of national mourning. The funeral ceremony in Oslo marked one of the major official events honoring the late monarch and brought together Norwegian citizens and international representatives.

Thousands Line Oslo Streets

Tens of thousands of mourners gathered along the streets of Oslo as King Harald’s coffin was carried in a procession from the Royal Palace to Oslo Cathedral. The large public turnout reflected the significance of the monarch’s death for Norway.

The procession provided members of the public with an opportunity to pay their final respects as the country formally commemorated the late king. The ceremony also drew considerable international attention because of the presence of numerous foreign royals and political leaders.

King Harald Laid to Rest

After the funeral service, King Harald V was laid to rest in the crypt of the Palace Chapel at Akershus Fortress. The burial brought the official funeral proceedings to a close.

The ceremony also marked the end of Norway’s 13-day national mourning period and formally began a new chapter for the Norwegian monarchy under King Haakon VIII.

Saudi Arabia Sends Condolences to Norway

Prince Turki bin Mohammed’s participation in the funeral represented Saudi Arabia at a major international royal occasion. By conveying condolences from King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman to King Haakon VIII, the Saudi delegation expressed support for Norway’s royal family following the death of King Harald V.

The presence of representatives from Saudi Arabia and numerous other countries demonstrated the international significance of the funeral and the broad recognition of King Harald’s long service as Norway’s monarch.
