The seven-time Grand Slam titleholder, Serena Williams, is ready for a notable return to the Australian Open in 2026. Having last participated in 2021, where she was ousted in the second round by Italy’s Sara Errani, Williams will seek to add to her illustrious career. Despite her 21 appearances, she has yet to clinch the championship, with two runner-up finishes: the first against her sister Venus in the 2003 final and the second in 2017.
At 45, Williams is set to become the oldest female athlete to enter the main draw of the Australian Open, breaking the record previously held by Japan's Kimiko Date, who was 44 when she left in 2015.
Expressing her enthusiasm, Williams stated, “I am excited to be back in Australia and looking forward to competing during the summer. I’ve had so many incredible memories there and I’m grateful for the opportunity to return to a place that has meant so much to my career.”
Besides the Australian Open, Williams will also participate in the Hobart International, starting January 12, alongside other tennis stars such as Barbora Krejcikova and Emma Raducanu.
This anticipated comeback resonates with tennis enthusiasts globally, highlighting Williams' undying commitment and her ability to challenge age norms in the sport.
