Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Multiple States in Malaysia

Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Multiple States in Malaysia

Post by : Shakul

MetMalaysia has issued a severe weather alert for thunderstorms impacting numerous regions in Malaysia, with particular emphasis on the Klang Valley. The warning underscores potential heavy rainfall, strong winds, and significant disruptions in various locations.

This alert is set to remain in effect until 6 PM on May 2, 2026. Certain areas could see rainfall exceeding 20 millimeters per hour, which raises the likelihood of localized flooding and impaired visibility.

The Klang Valley, encompassing Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, and Putrajaya, is among the most affected. Residents are urged to exercise caution and minimize outdoor activities during severe weather periods.

Various other states in Peninsular Malaysia, including Perlis, Kedah, Penang, and Perak, are also on alert. Thunderstorms may develop rapidly and linger for over an hour in specific areas.

Eastern states like Kelantan, Terengganu, and Pahang are also experiencing erratic weather patterns, while southern regions such as Negeri Sembilan, Melaka, and Johor anticipate similar conditions with heavy rains and strong winds.

In East Malaysia, parts of Sarawak and Sabah are included in the warning, with cities like Kuching, Sibu, Bintulu, Kota Kinabalu, and Tuaran likely to face thunderstorms during the advisory timeframe.

Labuan is also part of the affected areas, and unstable weather is expected to persist throughout the day. Authorities recommend that the public stay abreast of official updates and limit unnecessary travel during harsh weather.

MetMalaysia clarified that these thunderstorm warnings are short-term advisories generally valid for up to six hours, issued based on weather predictions of heavy rainfall and powerful winds.

The overall warning stresses the importance of public awareness and safety in the face of unpredictable weather changes. Citizens are encouraged to remain vigilant, follow safety protocols, and take preventive measures to mitigate potential risks.
