Severe Weather Warning: Thunderstorms and Heavy Rain Expected in Malaysia

Post by : Shakul

The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a severe weather warning advising residents across multiple states to brace for thunderstorms, heavy rain, and strong winds. This advisory is effective until 9 PM as unstable weather patterns develop across the nation.

Recent forecasts indicate that districts in Kedah, particularly Baling, Kulim, and Bandar Baharu, are likely to face intense rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms. In Perak, areas such as Kerian, Larut, Matang, and Selama are similarly on alert as storm activity escalates.

The notification also includes the east coast, where Dungun and Kemaman in Terengganu, along with Lipis in Pahang, are expected to experience heavy rainfall and gusty winds. Residents in these areas are urged to exercise caution, particularly those in flood-prone and low-lying regions.

In East Malaysia, extensive regions of Sarawak are predicted to encounter adverse weather. Locations such as Kuching, Serian, Samarahan, Sri Aman, Betong, Kapit, Bintulu, Miri, Marudi, and Limbang may witness thunderstorms that could lead to localized flooding and travel disruptions.

Sabah is also set to experience significant rainfall, with regions like Sipitang, Kuala Penyu, Beaufort, Nabawan, Tawau, Sandakan, and parts along the West Coast facing heavy showers and strong winds this evening.

Meteorologists caution that thunderstorms may form rapidly, bringing sudden downpours, lightning, and reduced visibility. Such conditions may hinder road transport, outdoor activities, and daily commutes, especially during peak periods.

Authorities advise the public to follow updates from official weather channels and exercise necessary precautions. Residents are encouraged to limit outdoor activities, secure loose items around their homes, and remain vigilant as severe weather impacts various regions of Malaysia.
