SHARJAH, February 15, 2026 — His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, inaugurated the Fili Heritage Souq on Sunday morning. The market spans an area of 2,065 square metres and represents a significant addition to the Fili Heritage development projects in the region.
During the inauguration, His Highness delivered a speech highlighting the importance of balanced development that preserves cultural values, heritage, and social cohesion. He emphasized that Sharjah’s progress follows a well-defined strategy focused on human development, moral values, and providing essential services to all segments of society.
The Ruler of Sharjah stated that development in the emirate proceeds under his direct supervision, prioritizing social, cultural, and economic growth while ensuring a dignified standard of living. He noted that the central region reflects the authentic desert heritage of the people and that modernization continues without compromising traditions, ethics, and identity.
His Highness also highlighted the Sharjah Human Care Programme, which supports individuals from early life stages through education, family formation, and housing. He referred to the role of Rubu’ Qarn for Creating Future Leaders and Innovators, which nurtures children and youth through specialized institutions aimed at building future-ready generations.
Sheikh Dr. Sultan announced that development projects in the region will continue, including Al Madam Hospital, which will be connected to the University Hospital in Sharjah to provide advanced healthcare services. Additional projects include Al Modina Lake as an emergency water reserve and the restoration of historic Al Madam forts to preserve regional history.
Following the inauguration, His Highness toured the market, which includes 13 shops and 5 kiosks offering handicrafts, incense, perfumes, camping equipment, and traditional souvenirs. The Souq also features a pottery workshop that educates visitors on traditional ceramic techniques, as well as a coffee house showcasing Arabic coffee preparation tools and customs.
The architectural design of the market reflects traditional local construction styles using natural materials such as clay, stone, palm fronds, and hand-carved wood, enhanced with Islamic geometric and botanical patterns. The market includes multiple entrances and 156 parking spaces to accommodate visitors.
Several senior officials and dignitaries accompanied the Ruler of Sharjah during the inauguration ceremony.
