Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, held high-level talks with Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Abu Dhabi during the Ukrainian leader’s working visit to the country.
The meeting focused on escalating regional security developments and their wider impact on global peace, international navigation, and the world economy. Both leaders reviewed the evolving situation and stressed the importance of maintaining stability.
Strong UAE–Ukraine Relations Highlighted
Sheikh Mohamed welcomed President Zelenskyy, noting that the visit reflects the growing strength of bilateral relations between the UAE and Ukraine. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing cooperation, particularly under the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement.
Condemnation of Regional Aggression
During the talks, the leaders discussed ongoing attacks targeting the UAE and other countries in the region. President Zelenskyy strongly condemned what he described as Iranian-backed aggression, calling it a violation of sovereignty, international law, and the UN Charter.
UAE Stresses Restraint and Right to Self-Defence
Sheikh Mohamed emphasized that the UAE is handling the situation with restraint and responsibility, aiming to prevent further escalation. At the same time, he reaffirmed the country’s right to defend its sovereignty against threats targeting civilians and infrastructure.
Support for Peace in Ukraine
The UAE President reiterated his country’s continued support for all international efforts aimed at achieving lasting peace in Ukraine, highlighting the importance of diplomatic solutions.
Senior Officials in Attendance
The meeting was attended by several senior UAE officials, including Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan and other key ministers. President Zelenskyy was earlier received at the airport by Suhail bin Mohamed Al Mazrouei.
