Mleiha, Sharjah:

His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, presided over the fourth harvest celebration of the “Sabaa Sanabel” wheat farm in Mleiha. At this occasion, he also introduced the premium chocolate brand “QAND” and unveiled the “Mazraaty” digital platform aimed at assisting farmers and livestock producers.

Commitment to Natural Food

In his address, the Ruler emphasized the significance of natural and organic food, cautioning against modern health issues stemming from unhealthy, chemical-laden diets. He advocated for the preservation of natural food sources to enhance public health.

Support for Local Agriculture

Sheikh Sultan commended the improving global reputation of Sharjah’s agricultural products. He announced that 580 farmers had benefitted from the Department of Agriculture and Livestock's seed distribution initiative.

He assured that ongoing governmental support would include assistance with land preparation, soil enhancement, and initiatives to reclaim non-arable land.

Advancements in Farming Technology

The Ruler highlighted the advantages of “nano clay” technology for enhancing soil quality, improving water retention, and maximizing crop yields. This innovation will soon be made available to farmers to improve their agricultural practices in challenging desert conditions.

Tackling Water and Cost Issues

To lower agricultural costs, new initiatives like drip irrigation projects in Kalba and Al Madina Lake have been initiated, alongside government-supported electricity subsidies. Mr. Sultan also stressed the importance of effective marketing to elevate healthy, trustworthy agricultural products.

Plans to Double Wheat Production

Sheikh Sultan extended an invitation to more UAE farmers to participate in the wheat initiative, revealing plans for a new wheat farm that aims to double production and enter international markets.

Comprehensive Food Security Vision

He highlighted Sharjah's ambition to create a comprehensive agricultural ecosystem, which encompasses wheat farms, dairy production in Mleiha, poultry initiatives, and fruit and vegetable farming, all aimed at providing quality, natural food.

Introduction of the “Mazraaty” Digital Platform

The newly launched “Mazraaty” platform will facilitate access to government services for farmers, employing advanced technologies like thermal imaging to monitor crop health and provide early alerts.

Launch of QAND Chocolate

Additionally, the Ruler introduced the luxurious “QAND” chocolate brand crafted from organic “Iktifa” ingredients. This brand seeks to represent Emirati heritage while advocating for natural products on a global stage.

Focus on Research and Innovation

The gathering showcased advanced research developments including wheat enhancement projects at the UAE's pioneering biotechnology lab. Research on nano clay and sustainable farming practices was presented by university scholars.

Engagement of Youth and Communities

Students and young creators displayed their projects, including a smart robot designed to combat desertification and enhance food security. Educational initiatives like “Baba Sultan Healthy Food” have been implemented in 57 institutions to promote healthy eating habits among children.

Successful Harvest Utilizing Modern Technology

The wheat harvest employed advanced machinery that efficiently cut, separated grains, and processed straw, showcasing Sharjah's commitment to smart agricultural practices.

Acknowledgements and Cultural Highlights

Sheikh Sultan recognized strategic partners who aided in the region's agricultural success, concluding the event with cultural displays and tributes from over 2,000 students to honor his efforts in promoting food security and sustainable farming.
