Malayan Tiger Spotted Near Gua Musang

Post by : Shakul

The Department of Wildlife and National Parks (Perhilitan) in Malaysia has validated reports of a Malayan tiger being seen near the Sungai Relai Bridge in Gua Musang, Kelantan. This confirmation follows a viral video on social media depicting the tiger crossing the area, enticing significant interest from local residents and conservation advocates.

Datuk Abdul Kadir Abu Hashim, the Director-General of Perhilitan, noted that their wildlife officers swiftly initiated an investigation upon receiving the report. Initial discoveries indicate that the tiger was merely passing through the location, returning safely to its natural forest habitat.

While authorities conducted thorough checks at the sighting site, no additional evidence of the animal was detected. Officials confirmed that there were no complaints from local residents either before or after the incident, ensuring community stability.

This sighting serves as a reminder of the critically endangered Malayan tiger, one of the rarest large cat species globally. Conservationists have continually warned that human encroachment and habitat loss can lead wildlife closer to populated areas, increasing interactions.

Perhilitan has advised the public to maintain composure and refrain from approaching wild animals upon sighting. Experts emphasize that engaging directly with large predators can pose risks and disrupt their natural behaviors.

Residents observing wildlife are urged to report incidents immediately to Perhilitan via their official hotline. Quick reporting is crucial for monitoring animal patterns and ensuring the safety of both wildlife and the public.

Officials announced that they will persist with their monitoring efforts in the region as part of their ongoing conservation initiatives. The department reaffirmed its dedication to protecting the Malayan tiger while also ensuring the well-being of communities residing near Malaysia's forested areas.
