Sikandar Raza Reflects on His Brother's Passing During T20I Duty

Post by : Bianca Haleem

Dubai – Sikandar Raza, the T20 International captain of Zimbabwe, is facing profound grief following the untimely passing of his younger brother, Muhammad Mahdi, aged just 13.

In a heartfelt statement, Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) extended its deepest condolences to Raza and his family, stating, “Our sincerest sympathies go to Sikandar Raza and his family after the tragic loss of his cherished younger brother, Muhammad Mahdi. Muhammad had been battling haemophilia and faced challenging health issues, which ultimately led to his death on 29 December 2025 in Harare.”

Muhammad Mahdi was interred on 30 December 2025 at the Warren Hills Cemetery. The ZC Board, management, alongside players and staff, expressed solidarity with Raza during this trying time. “May Allah provide them with strength and solace, and may the soul of Muhammad Mahdi find eternal peace,” they added.

To convey his sorrow, Sikandar Raza shared a broken-heart emoji on social media, illustrating his personal heartache.

This tragedy strikes at a crucial juncture in Raza’s cricket journey. The seasoned all-rounder recently showcased his prowess with the Sharjah Warriorz in the ILT20 2025, achieving 171 runs and claiming 10 wickets in 10 appearances, reinforcing his status as a dependable T20 competitor.

Despite this emotional upheaval, Raza is gearing up to captain Zimbabwe in the forthcoming T20 World Cup 2026, scheduled to begin in February. His role as captain and a key performer will be pivotal on the international platform.
