Jannik Sinner Overpowers Clement Tabur in French Open Opener

Post by : Bianca Haleem

Jannik Sinner, the world’s top-ranked player, kicked off his French Open journey with an impressive straight-set victory against local player Clement Tabur on Tuesday.

The Italian tennis sensation secured a 6-1, 6-3, 6-4 win in the first round held at Roland Garros, showcasing a commanding performance filled with relentless pressure and aggressive baseline play.

Sinner, who is determined to clinch his first French Open title, took charge right from the start, breaking Tabur’s serve early to lead 2-0 in the first set and extending his lead to 4-1 with another critical break. The 24-year-old finished the opening set with a powerful forehand winner.

The second set continued in the same vein, with Sinner’s pace and precision proving too much for Tabur, as he quickly established a two-set advantage.

In the third set, Tabur exhibited increased confidence, delivering several impressive shots supported by the enthusiastic local crowd. The world number 171 tested Sinner briefly with his spirited play.

However, Sinner swiftly regained control with his powerful groundstrokes and sharp shot-making, ultimately sealing the match in straight sets as he maintained his strong form this season.

Entering Roland Garros, Sinner boasts an extraordinary 29-match winning streak, losing only three sets during this period. He also recently completed his set of Masters 1000 titles.

Post-match, he expressed gratitude to the fans for their support, even while playing against a French opponent.

“I’m thrilled to be back here, where I have cherished memories. First-round matches are always challenging,” Sinner stated. “Thank you for your support and for being fair to me, knowing I was up against a Frenchman.”
