Christian Siriano, the famous “Project Runway” designer, impressed audiences at New York Fashion Week with a stunning finale gown he created in just 48 hours. The iridescent green fabric he ordered from Italy was delayed in customs, arriving only shortly before Thursday’s show.
Siriano, used to working under tight deadlines, said the last-minute design brought extra excitement to his collection. “The best dresses come at the end because I’m really, really in it,” he told The Associated Press.
For this season, Siriano focused on letting his clothes speak for themselves, moving away from heavily themed venues. His collection explored texture, color, and surreal designs, inspired by a dreamlike world, similar to a Dali painting.
The show’s front row featured celebrity friends and loyal customers, including Leslie Jones, Uzo Aduba, Julia Fox, Natasha Lyonne, Whoopi Goldberg, and Taylor Momsen.
The runway opened with black and white structured looks before models appeared in bold colors. Their hair was styled in surreal swoops crisscrossed around their necks. Siriano reimagined red carpet silhouettes with asymmetric necklines, tulle sleeves, peplums, cut-outs, feathers, and delicate beading. Several sheer and revealing designs also made a striking impact.
As always, Siriano showcased models of all sizes and genders, emphasizing beauty, diversity, and confidence. “We need to escape and be somewhere else … in a dream world,” he said.
The standout pieces included a chartreuse lace cropped jacket with a maxi skirt and the bright green ombre bubble gown that arrived last-minute. Supermodel Coco Rocha closed the show in this gown, posing dramatically down the runway. Leslie Jones cheered, shouting “drama!” as Rocha passed.
“He makes you feel secure in his clothes. It doesn’t matter what size you are; he’s going to make you feel beautiful,” Jones said.
