Tesla's Self-Driving Technology Gains Approval in the Netherlands

Post by : Shakul

In a significant development, Tesla has secured approval for its supervised self-driving technology in the Netherlands, marking it as the first nation in Europe to embrace this advancement.

The Dutch vehicle authority RDW sanctioned the technology following comprehensive evaluations conducted over an 18-month period. This system, referred to as Full Self-Driving (FSD) Supervised, permits vehicles to maneuver, accelerate, and decelerate under human supervision.

Experts assert that when utilized correctly, the system can enhance road safety, though it remains imperative for drivers to stay vigilant. The Netherlands aims to propose the system for broader EU approval soon.

This approval is crucial for Tesla’s growth ambitions, as the company strategically leans on AI-based self-driving technologies to fuel future earnings. CEO Elon Musk has consistently championed autonomous driving and robotaxis as pivotal for the firm’s development.

Recent times have seen Tesla struggle with decreasing sales in Europe, attributed to an outdated vehicle range and controversies around Musk's views. Nevertheless, industry experts believe that the FSD’s launch may spark renewed interest among consumers keen on innovative driving technologies.

Currently, approximately 100,000 Tesla cars in the Netherlands, including the Model 3 and Model Y, are set to benefit from the new software. Tesla is poised to implement this feature imminently, with broader European adoption anticipated shortly.

Should the technology garner EU-wide approval, it could dramatically alter the automotive sector, positioning Tesla ahead of rivals and propelling the transition towards autonomous transportation in Europe.
